When does the children's holiday website Kidpassage recommend that parents leave the crowded, historic centre of Vienna for the outskirts of the Austrian capital? For example, if your child is tired of strolling along the historic cobblestones and the Kahlenberg Rope Park is only half an hour away. Even the smartest person wants to be wild sometimes, especially when they are a child.
The park is set in the beautiful Wiener Wald. But you'll have to make enjoying nature a special item on your agenda — the trails won't leave you much time for that. Waldseilpark Kahlenberg has 14 routes of varying difficulty, with a total of almost one hundred and fifty obstacles. There are no easy routes: even the easiest blue routes reach heights of up to 7 metres.
Unfortunately, there are no activities for pre-school children. But younger pupils can try their hand at any of the five blue trails — or all five, if they like. What does it take to step on a swinging tree trunk or walk along a rope stretched several metres above the ground? To trust a certified safety system (without it, and without a helmet, the instructor will not let a single person on the trail), and then to remember school gym lessons and films about Mowgli and Tarzan. In reality, children on the blue trails only need to find their courage and have enough agility and strength.
The blue and red trails are suitable for children between 130 and 150 cm tall. Each of the 5 red trails is up to 10 metres high. Adults and teenagers over the age of 16 can try the extreme black trails, 4 of which are in the park and take daredevils 20 metres off the ground. But what if your courage doesn't last long before the course? Not to worry: you can come down to earth at any stage of the course.
Don't worry if this is the first time you and your children have been to a ropes course and you have no idea how to jump from station to station on the wobbly poles. For beginners, Waldseilpark Kahlenberg has prepared a training course at a height of 35 cm above the ground. This will help you to get the hang of it and gain confidence in yourself and your harness. The training route is also free of charge.
As with all rope parks, it is recommended that you wear comfortable clothing and footwear when climbing the course. This equipment will come in handy if you decide to take a walk through the Vienna Woods and the historic streets of Kahlenberg.
Another fun activity awaits young and old visitors to the park. Right next to the Kahlenberg Forest Rope Park there is a 3D archery park with trails of varying lengths. You can shoot at numerous 3D targets with great fun and concentration.
