The Alps don't just attract skiers. In summer, families with children can enjoy the peace and clean air. However, active children may get bored with the quiet — suggest a trip to the Zahmer Kaiser amusement park. It's not far from the German ski resort of Reit im Winkl.
This small park, nestled in a green valley between mountains, doesn't have many rides, but it does have a selection of children's favourites, including a large number of trampolines and an excellent playground. One of the more unusual games is the construction site. As soon as the boys get there, they realise that they've had enough of shovelling sand — it's time to use some real construction equipment. There are cranes that can lift loads and excavators that can dig up gravel.
For the more adventurous, there's a mini rafting challenge. Although the rafting only lasts a few seconds, there's plenty of excitement and cold splashes. If you don't want to get wet, take the family on the bobsleigh run. Another great attraction is the Parachute Carousel, where parachute seats float over the mountains.
Children who miss the computer games at home can play in a racing simulator or take a video tour of the mountains. Children will enjoy watching the goats graze on the fenced-in meadow. Some other animals live in the mini-zoo.
The park has also recently opened a 2000m2 trampoline centre. There are around 40 rides for toddlers and older children.
A trip to the Zahmer Kaiser can be combined with a break on the shores of nearby Lake Walchsee in Tyrol.
