Experiminta Museum

Experiminta Museum

Germany, Frankfurt am Main

Interactive museums are always a hit with children — they love being able to take part. When it comes to scientific knowledge, there's nothing better than letting your child discover the truth about physics or mathematics for themselves. There are experiment museums for this, such as Experiminta in Frankfurt.

Its halls are filled with exhibits that explain the laws of physics, mathematics and computer science. But children don't have to listen to teachers, they can act on their own or with other young visitors to set an experimental model in motion and understand how it works.

Before you go to this museum, imagine that you have forgotten the 'not' particle and tell your child: run along the corridors, play with matches, lift weights. But make it clear that Experiminta has special facilities for this. Running down the corridor to gain speed is a demonstration of the 'fast - slow' relationship. Lifting a daddy's chair is an explanation of how blocks work. And a burning fire helps you see the sound and even learn how a tornado forms.

There are more than 120 exhibits in the museum. Most are designed for children over 10, but there are a number of experimental models specially designed for pre-school and primary school kids. Here you can find out how to lie on sharp nails without harming your health, how to build a bridge without any fasteners and how to create a pattern with mirrors. You can also look inside a giant eyeball and learn fascinating facts about optics.

Senckenberg Natural History Museum is just 500 meters away. This is another interesting museum for a family visit.

The idea of the museum's founders was not only to educate, but also to have fun — children play in the playroom, squeaking and sneaking in the revolving mirror. Children's natural sense of wonder leads them to marvel at a ball floating in the air or to try on a giant soap bubble.

Experiminta has a shop where you can buy experiment kits and maths and science books. There is also a café on the ground floor where you can grab a bite to eat after your tour.
