Sea Life is a network of aquariums all over the world. One of them is in Munich and it's a must for children. Firstly, you can see some of the planet's inhabitants that you wouldn't normally encounter in everyday life — of the 4,500 species in the collection, not many can be seen while relaxing by the sea or a lake. Secondly, you can get to know some of the inhabitants of the seas and oceans by petting them or holding them in your hands.
Thirdly, it is always interesting to observe living creatures in their natural habitat. Fourthly, it is not just a walk between the aquariums, but an adventure on the sea floor. After all, where else can you find out if an octopus really has eight legs and if a sea urchin looks like an ordinary hedgehog?
The fish kingdom is set up accordingly, with shipwrecks, treasure chests, underwater cities and other decorations adding to the mystery of the place. But that's just the backdrop; it's the inhabitants of the aquariums that count. Some are agile, others lie down and pretend to be part of the sandy seabed. Some are brightly coloured, others blend in with the algae. Some stick their long noses into everything, while others have fins with poisonous spines. Sharks patrol the area, stingrays hover above the bottom, hermit crabs peer out from their shelters with independent gazes, sea anemones worry — everyone is busy doing their own thing.
Take time to visit the shallow pool where crabs and starfish live on a rocky shoal. You can hold them in your hands and learn how they live and get their food. You can also see green turtles feeding — these large amphibians love fresh fruit and vegetables.
And next to them live small pond turtles, the kind of cute little animals every child wants to hold. And of course, many visitors are drawn to the shark feeding. While these predators are busy eating their treats, you can see the different colours of the sharks: there are spotted, striped and steel grey.
Walking through a tunnel of clear glass, with fish and turtles swimming behind it, makes a powerful impression. Most of the inhabitants of the aquarium don't mind people watching them, but some are curious — they swim up to see what's going on on the other side of the glass. Sea Life also has jellyfish — you can stand by their aquarium for a very long time watching the silent movement of these strange creatures.
After the tour you can have lunch in the Aquarium café. Visitors with small children are also well catered for. You can hold your baby in your arms and leave the pram in a special place, or you can carry it in a pram if it is convenient for both of you.
