Miniature parks are specially created for tourists with children. Until the kids have grown up to tours of palaces, castles and churches, you can look at toy models of architectural masterpieces with them. For example, the park "Catalonia in miniature" exhibited 150 copies of the main attractions of this Spanish autonomous community. "Catalonia in miniature" near Barcelona, is in the tiny town of Torrelles de Llobregat. A trip there has at least two benefits: a break from the noise of Barcelona and an acquaintance with Catalonia's architecture in an exciting format for children.
A giant in the country of Lilliputians — this is how a child feels among his toys. The same feeling will arise in him and any adult among the small buildings in the Catalunya en miniatura park. When else will there be an opportunity to look at the roof of the house and not risk it? Some of the roofs are very recognizable: if before that you were in Park Güell or looked at the Casa Batlló, the child will see both gingerbread houses and multi-coloured turrets from afar.
Antoni Gaudi's architectural creations have a place of honour in the park. Among the copies of his famous works is a model of the Sagrada Familia cathedral. It doesn't look as overwhelming and intimidating as the original, so it's safe to view even with a toddler.
One of the park's most extensive dioramas depicts the Montserrat Monastery: the massive monastery building, the mountains surrounding it, the cable car, and the river at the foot of the mountains. But what impresses visitors most is a scaled-down replica of the Mediterranean Sea. The beaches and port facilities are on its shores, as they should be. In the centre of the small sea is a replica of Mallorca.
Life in mini-Catalonia is lively: the motorways are jammed with cars, trains clatter on the tracks, and ships set sail. Press a button to bring a picture to life (a job readily done by children).
It will take at least an hour and a half to see the building layouts. If time is limited, get on the sightseeing train, which tours all the mini-attractions. At the exit of the Park of Miniatures of Catalonia, there are huge shoes to fill. Or maybe they're not the least big — its visitors shrinking after a stroll through the little country?
If you haven't run out of energy, the "Catalunya in miniature" adventure park trails await you. The four trails of varying difficulty seem to be designed not for humans but for gnomes, fairies, elves and trolls. The dwarf curcuit is suitable for children aged three years and over. The troll circuit is suitable for children over 1.40 m in height.
The park also has a picnic area and a playground.
