You probably won't be able to see all the sights of Torrevieja in one day. So, choose to visit the local Museum of Ethnology on a particular date: it will be an exciting and fun excursion for adults and children.
A fascinating and educational museum for children, the Museo del Mar y de la Sal has operated since 1995. A visit here with your little one will teach you about the traditions and customs of the people who live in this region. Everything related to shipbuilding, seafaring and fishing can be seen within the walls of the Regional Museum. Incidentally, the salt (derived from the name of the cultural institution) plays a vital role for the locals. Many of the exhibits are in some way related to salt. This seemingly simple mineral still means a great deal to the people of the Spanish town of Torrevieja today.
Once you cross the museum's threshold, you immediately enter the world of the Spanish countryside, with its history represented by curious exhibits. Plenty of model ships, fishing gear, rigging and unique archaeological finds exist. There is also its exhibition of photographs showing the development of the maritime and salt industry in Torrevieja.
But the highlight is the Dolphin S-61 submarine which every child without exception wants to see. This unique exhibit appeared in the Salt Museum in Torrevieja not by chance: it was presented to the city by the Spanish Ministry of Defense. The boat can be seen in the harbour by the pier. Visitors are allowed inside the ship. The layout is similar to that of a real submarine. Your child will get to know the boat's structure and see with their own eyes how sailors and their captains make deep-sea raids.
