The resort of Platja d'Aro is one of the quietest on the Costa Brava. But once you've had enough of the quiet, the Aquadiver water park can help banish boredom. There's squealing, splashing, mischief, thrills and a picnic in the lacy shade of Spanish stone pines.
Toddlers who have not been to a water park will have a positive first experience in the paddling pool with three gentle slides and two colourful and gently sliding zigzags. If your little one is ready for a new experience, why not take them on the artificial rocks of Rock House? Nearby is Adventure Lake, where anyone can try to navigate the water like a dry land or swing in a water hammock.
Older kids will enjoy the Fun Temple water playground — it's not for bathing but for firing water pistols at each other, going down spiral tubes and waiting for a giant bucket to drop a waterfall on your head.
Family fun at Aquadiver includes seven slides. There's the long Aqua Racer speed slide, the padded team rappel, the 250m Splash Mountain slide (done in a two-seater inflatable boat), three colourful zigzag slides of different lengths and the circular Spirotub helix. Children over 80 cm tall can row with their parents through the waters of the Fast River.
For a relaxing holiday, two whirlpools are suitable. There is a large pool with artificial waves for the whole family. You can stay in the shallow end with toddlers or let them go in deeper water if they're good swimmers.
The water park in Platja d'Aro has not ignored the extreme. A heart-racing descent through the Water Fall Black Tunnel and the two steep Kamikaze slides is guaranteed. The Aqua Rocket free-fall capsule provides the ultimate adrenaline injection. However, these are not the most extreme slides in the Costa Brava — all four slides are accessible to children whose height exceeds 1.20m.
If you've worked up an appetite after the adventure, you can eat at the restaurants and kiosks within the water park. You're also allowed to bring your food. There is a unique green area for picnics outdoors.
There is a Pineda Park playground for children in the shade of pine trees.
