Your holiday in Spain with a child will be truly unforgettable if you diversify beach activities with intellectual ones. If you spend your summer holidays on the Costa Brava, you will have a great chance to visit the Museum of Cinema, which is located in the city of Girona.
It opened in 1998 and, at that time, was the first Spanish cultural institution of its kind. As you know, any museum has a foundation on which the entire exposition is built. The Museu del Cinema is the private collection of Thomas Mallol, a large percentage of which are film lenses.
The Girona Film Museum is spread over four floors. His entire collection is conditionally divided into ten large expositions:
1. Shadows;
2. Mirrors;
3. Magic lantern;
4. Image fixation;
5. Moving image;
6. Racing in the cinema;
7. End of film editing;
8. Cinema tools;
9. Amateur cinema;
10. Children's cinema.
Each of them contains fascinating items: rare posters, vintage projectors, sophisticated film equipment, cartoon reels, an almost endless collection of cartoons and films from different production years, photographs with famous actors and actresses from all eras, engravings and paintings dedicated to the film industry and much more. Don't miss out on this experience, as your children will see the Lumiere Brothers movie projector with their eyes!
In all, the Girona Film Museum has around 30,000 exhibits.
But the leading exhibition is not all you can show your child in this place. There are also many interesting temporary exhibitions, a video library, and a museum shop. There is also an institute for research and an actors' club at the museum.
After visiting the museum, we recommend taking a steam train ride around Girona to see the city's main sights.
