Resting in one of the resort towns or villages of the Costa Brava, take a short break after a beach holiday and enjoy the nature of this region. Who said kids would be bored? A walk through the gardens, of which there is a large number in this region, will allow you to see all the beauty of these places, enjoy the fresh air and aromas, and the children will have plenty of running around and spending their extra energy. One of these gardens that we recommend visiting is the Garden of Saint Clotilde in Lloret de Mar, which was created back in 1919.
The gardens were arranged by one of the most famous architects of Catalonia at that time — Nicolau Maria Rubier. He worked at the request of the Marquis Roviralt, who decided to build a beautiful park for himself.
Today, the picturesque Gardens of Saint Clotilde, located on 24 hectares, is a natural green oasis from which stunning sea panoramas open. The park is designed perfectly: picturesque views of nature open from all its alleys and paths, the territory is decorated with graceful statues, in the centre of the garden, there is a small pond with fountains, and in the meadows, there are several sun loungers for relaxing in the shade of lush tree crowns.
It is important to note that the botanical garden in Lloret de Mar was designed in the image and likeness of most Italian gardens in the Romantic style. The park is terraced, with many fountains, stairs and marble figures.
So, what awaits you and your child as you stroll through the well-kept green alleys of the Gardens of Sant Clotilde? Almost at the entrance, you will be greeted by a marble statue of a dog at the start of the main avenue. The dog is said to guard the peace of the park. Walk along the path and come to Greetings Square, where two identical paths branch off in different directions. Under one of them, you can get to the Rubier and Tuduri observation deck, while the other leads you and your little one to the beautiful terraced garden.
Walking through the green area of the park, you will undoubtedly find yourself in its centre, the role of which is played by Sirens Square. Stairs diverge from the platform in different directions, like three rays from the sun. One of them is full of bronze sculptures of sirens. If you find yourself on a local observation deck, you can reach another staircase, the front one, wholly entwined with fragrant flower bushes: jasmine, roses, and wisteria.
The Jardins de Santa Clotilde is perfectly tended, and you won't find any park staff here. The bushes are perfectly trimmed, the grass is a silken carpet at the visitor's feet, and the flowers grow with almost geometric precision. It all seems to happen by magic. But for adults, it's easy to see the incredible effort the groundskeepers put into keeping the garden in such perfect condition.
St Clothilde's Gardens offer guided tours at weekends. When you buy your ticket at the ticket counter, you'll receive a colourful booklet detailing the attraction (the text is also in Russian).
This park in Lloret da Mar has been recognised as a Spanish national treasure since 1995, so please treat it as a true cultural and historical treasure.
