Botanical gardens are just as popular a place to walk with children as parks. But we don't dare to call the Botanical Garden of Malaga only a place for walking a child during daytime sleep. Its collection of tropical and subtropical plants has been formed over 150 years, and today it has more than 3 thousand species — there are more than 50 varieties of palm trees alone. In addition, valuable archaeological finds were made during the laying out of the garden. Some of them migrated to the Archaeological Museum of Madrid, but some — in particular, fragments of ancient Roman sculptures — are exhibited in the garden.
The Botanical Garden of Malaga has another name — the estate "La Concepción". The fact is that it was the owners of this estate, the newlyweds Jorge Loring Oyarzabal and Amalia Heredia Livermore, who travelled around Europe in 1855, were inspired by the best examples of park art and decided to set up their garden. Now this luxurious park area is considered one of the main attractions of the Costa del Sol.
The garden area is 23 hectares; even a cursory examination of the entire collection can take several hours. So that the walk does not seem boring to anyone, several different routes have been created here. The "Around the World" route is the most informative for children. The journey from North America to South America, and then through Africa, Europe and Asia to Oceania, takes only 1 hour, but during this time, children can see more than 200 outlandish plants from different continents.
However, depending on your interests, you can choose other itineraries: La Concepcion Treasures, Lookouts, Forest Route, and Theme Gardens. Imagine the surprise of a child learning that even ordinary fruit trees in a botanical garden are equivalent to museum exhibits.
Incidentally, the La Concepcion botanical gardens are not just about botany. Exhibitions of contemporary art are often held there. Many visitors, however, prefer to contemplate the beauty of nature. Strolling through the manicured garden with its shady alleys, ponds, streams, and waterfalls is relaxing, and although your feet may be aching afterwards, you'll still feel rested.
