The green area in Málaga, which stretches along the N-340 coastal motorway, is often referred to as Paseo del Parque — Park Alley, although this is only the name given to the street that runs through the park. Despite the park's small size and central location, it is tranquil and peaceful. As long as you have to plan your Málaga activities with a siesta in mind, we recommend lounging amongst the greenery of the city park during the hotter hours.
The playground is the central part of any recreational area for parents with children. Malaga Park has also set up two significant areas for children to play. In addition to the usual slides, swings and merry-go-rounds, several attractions can be found here.
But it's possible that a child won't even remember the swings when they enter the park. The Parque de Malaga is a veritable tropical park within the city limits. In the warm Andalusian climate, exotic plants from Africa, Australia, South America and Japan blossom and bear fruit on the Costa del Sol. It is so easy to get lost in the tropics just by turning off the main pathway onto one of the many winding pathways dividing the park into small secluded corners. Benches are everywhere, so you can nestle your little one for an afternoon nap under a huge alocasia or fatsia leaf, enjoy the scent of the roses or inhale the gentle scent of blossoming orange trees.
A plaque indicating their name is next to each of the 5,000 plants. Surprisingly, many of the plants we used to think of as indoor plants grow like giants in this park. The heat-loving exotics strike another chord: the Strelitzia, for example, is called a bird of paradise — look at its flowers, and you'll be amazed at how accurate this comparison is.
Take a stroll along the green lanes, and you'll find lovely fountains, the oldest of which predate the park. There are also many sculptures dedicated to famous Malaga natives.
It must be said that Málaga Park has been around for over 100 years. It has recently been redeveloped, and the beauty of this green space has been enhanced. A clever layout has created a multifunctional recreational area for people of all ages. Places for relaxing and active pastimes, playgrounds and attractions for children, cafés and drinks stands, and an open-air summer theatre can be found in only 30,000 square metres.
There are also two adjacent small parks — the Jardines de Pedro Luis Alonso and the Jardines de Puerta Oscura. There is also the luxurious La Concepción botanical garden with 3,000 species of plants.
