Faunia

Faunia

Spain, Madrid

Outdoor recreation is one of the favourite types of family leisure. In this case, by nature, they mean only flora, and they try to stay away from fauna. But in the Faunia Park, located on the outskirts of Madrid, you can safely get acquainted with the animal world of the Earth. That is a good place for families with children in Madrid and a way to introduce young travellers to animals from different continents.

Faunia Park occupies a vast green area, home to 7,000 animals of 500 different species. Several thematic zones were organised in the park to recreate the natural habitat for each representative of the fauna. Here you can get an idea of various ecosystems: you will visit hot jungles and cold polar latitudes, on the lake and underground.

And the Faunia themed areas are even more diverse — they are dedicated to Komodo monitor lizards, bats, kangaroos, pandas, lemurs and meerkats. Still, there is also the Garden of Eden area, Dinosaur Canyon and the Nest area. In the Garden of Eden, you will see insects in the "Nest" — eggs of birds and even turtles, but we suggest unravelling the mystery of the Dinosaur Canyon on the spot.

Younger children like the Farm themed area, where ponies, donkeys, sheep and pigs graze and poultry walk. Animals on the farm are allowed to be fed and stroked. A separate pavilion in Faunia Nature Park is dedicated to venomous creatures - snakes, spiders and jellyfish.

Faunia, el Parque Temático de la Naturaleza is also an educational centre. Learn about marine mammals, birds of prey, parrots, penguins, monkeys, and other terrestrial creatures. Information is best received with a penguin tromping along or a monkey swinging on liana. The timetable for the lectures is on the website.

Everything you can't see on Earth these days will be shown in the 3D cinema of Faunia Park in Madrid. An animated film about the adventures of a modern man who happens to be in the Jurassic period is entertaining and educational.

A complete tour of the park takes about 5 hours. It's good to know that there is a restaurant, several cafes and food stalls on site. If children have extra energy left over, they can spend it on the Faunia playground.
