Burgundy Center For Wildlife Studies

Burgundy Center For Wildlife Studies

United States, Capon Bridge

Overview

Preserving its jolly vibes since 1963 is the Burgundy Center for Wildlife Studies (BCWS), a summer camp for young explorers drawn to the harmony of nature. Down the meandering trails, past the leafy outdoors, campers find personal and environmental growth nurtured by the camp's experienced staff and energizing activities. The BCWS magic is unlocked through a balance of science lessons, creative workshops, and community culture, helping to soften the line that separates mankind and nature. Playing adventurous games, sharing campfire songs, or discovering the science behind the flapping wings of a monarch, the activities are as varied as the species residing in the corners of the sanctuary. The BCWS camp isn't only about individual discovery, but community harmony too. Here, each child finds space to grow—whether that's taking a deep dive into plant, animal or earth science, or creating a project designed around their unique passion for all things untamed. Guided by a polished staff-to-camper ratio, youngsters enjoy a non-competitive environment that reliably cultivates empathy, respect, and an appreciation for our planet's diverse inhabitants. Tucked well off the beaten path, BCWS camps stretch across 500 acres of Appalachian Mountain wilderness—a resplendent space accented by crisp, forest air, and punctuated nightly by a brilliantly starlit sky. With the gurgling of a spring-fed stream as a gentle backdrop, the lodgy dining porch feast rendezvous transforms into a comforting family-style gathering where meals are shared and delectable ideas exchanged. Casual and comfortable, the sleeping quarters are screened sanctuaries where fresh air flows freely. Even parents, reluctant to leave the serene sanctuary get a taste of BCWS during the specially curated 'Adult Weekend'. It's a tranquil retreat, allowing grown-ups to indulge their natural curiosity or simply enjoy the breathtaking backdrop of the Appalachian greenery. At the BCWS, every camper, young or old, rediscovers the joy of nature, leaving behind footprints of cherished memories etched deep into the earthy heart of the sanctuary.
