Camp Powhatan

United States, Hiwassee

Overview

Set amidst the breathtaking beauty of the picturesque Blue Ridge Scout Reservation, Camp Powhatan presents an exhilarating journey of discovery and adventure for all those spirited campers who are venturing towards earning their Eagle and Brownsea Island merit badges for the first time. As the larger of the two base camps, Camp Powhatan sits at the epicenter of classic summer camp activities, its heart pulsating with excitement and adventure. Camp Powhatan encompasses stimulating arenas, such as a state-of-the-art Nature Lodge, a pioneering Handicraft shelter showcasing ingenious architecture, a bustling Pow-Mart Trading Post and not to forget the awe-inspiring BLOB. The camp proudly houses the seven bridges road – an enchanting journey to embark upon, while meticulously counting bridges on your way to the camp.

Camp Powhatan's innovative program does wave a magic wand over the familiar areas of Nature, Handicraft, Waterfront, Shooting Sports, and Scoutcraft, bringing outstanding first-year merit badge experiences for eager young scouts. As the day unfolds, families can dive into delectable aromas in the dining area where all are invited for a family-style feast thrice a day! The adventure doesn't stop on land; the Camp's waterfront hosts an expansive range of aquatic endeavors. Mountain lake invites for fishing, boating, and swimming, topped with a heart-stopping leap from the lifeguard tower onto – and an eruption off of – "The BLOB"! As the twilight stars twinkle in the blue-ridge sky, the camp draws the dust under the day's adventure, awaiting special activities. Among them, the mesmerizing cowboy action shooting western-themed range, movie nights, nature shows, and riveting ATV off-road escapades. And when the campfire flickers and hums campfire songs under the mountain stars, families nestle into campsites tucked around creeks, perched on hilltops with panoramic mountain views, or snuggled in Adirondack shelters. Swaddled in the comforting blanket of the warm virgin summers and the cool, starry nights, Camp Powhatan invites families to a summer of a lifetime. Full of exploration, learning, and most importantly, a treasure of giggles and bedtime stories, this camp uncovers the joy of childhood again, one scout badge at a time.
