For young food enthusiasts ready to explore the art of cooking and baking, Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte offers a summer camp experience that’s as educational as it is delicious. Located on West Trade Street, this camp provides budding chefs ages 10-15 with the opportunity to learn from professional JWU chef-instructors in a fun, hands-on environment. The four-day program is designed to teach participants the fundamentals of culinary arts, including proper techniques, kitchen safety, sanitation, and an exploration of popular cuisines. Campers can choose between two tracks—Culinary or Baking & Pastry Arts—each offering a unique focus. Culinary campers will dive into savory dishes from around the world, while Baking & Pastry participants will explore the sweeter side of the kitchen, mastering techniques like cake decorating and bread making. Each day runs from 9 AM to 2 PM, with drop-off starting at 8:30 AM. Small class sizes (limited to 12 students per group) ensure personalized instruction and plenty of hands-on practice. Tuition includes all necessary equipment—apron, hat, recipe book—and even daily snacks and lunch, making it a comprehensive culinary experience. For older teens entering grades 10-12 who are considering a career in the food industry, JWU also offers a Collegiate Camp. This program dives deeper into the many facets of the culinary world, from international cuisines to sustainable food practices and emerging technologies. With expert chefs guiding them every step of the way, participants gain valuable insight into professional culinary careers while refining their skills. Whether your child dreams of becoming the next big chef or simply wants to learn new skills in the kitchen, Johnson & Wales University’s summer camps in Charlotte provide an inspiring and enriching experience. It’s more than just cooking—it’s about sparking creativity, building confidence, and creating memories that will last long after the final dish is served.
