LMU Pre-College Programs: Journalism Workshop

United States, Los Angeles

Overview

Embarking on a journey of journalistic discovery, LMU Pre-College Programs: Journalism Workshop offers an enlightening adventure into the vibrant world of storytelling. With a focus on Journalism, Reading, and Writing, this program is a perfect playground for young minds to delve into the captivating world of news and storytelling. The course opens up a realm of knowledge, teaching students the art of discovering stories, crafting them into engaging narratives, and presenting them in the most compelling ways possible. From capturing riveting images on a phone to concocting audio-rich stories and podcasts, the workshop covers it all. Beyond the technical skills, the program also places a strong emphasis on the ethics of journalism. After all, being a journalist is much more than owning a website or a smartphone. It's about responsibility, integrity, and a commitment to truth. Stepping into the shoes of a journalist, students get a chance to explore the industry from the inside out. They learn about the evolution of journalism, from the days when it was monopolized by a handful of companies and wealthy individuals, to the present, where it has become more democratized yet still requiring certain skills and values. Applications for the summer of 2024 open on November 15th, 2023, and close on March 15th, 2024. So, if your child is fascinated by the world of journalism, this might just be the perfect summer activity for them. In the end, this program doesn't just teach journalism, it instills a sense of curiosity, a passion for truth, and a respect for the power of words. It's more than a summer camp - it's a stepping stone to the future of journalism.
