In Austria, the spa town of Baden, home to the 'Roman Therme', is very popular. However, the pools in Baden are very modest compared to those in Vienna's Therme Wien. The Therme Wien has 26 indoor and outdoor pools. It is one of the largest thermal baths in Austria, with a total area of 6,000 square metres, and is open all year round. There are great family-friendly facilities, including for parents with young children.
Imagine that you are travelling along a river, on the banks of which there are stopping stones: the Stone of Tranquillity, the Stone of Adventure, the Stone of Beauty, the Stone of Saunas. The thermal landscape stretches between the stones, and in the distance you can see the Wilderness and the Garden of Seasons. This is the layout of the complex. The temperature of the water in the pools varies between +24°C and +36°C. One of the thermal landscapes uses sea water. There is also an outdoor hydrogen sulphide pool.
Children are naturally drawn to the Stone of Adventure. Here are the main attractions: waterfalls, fountains, water cannons, a children's slide and diving towers. There is a deeper pool where you can even dive. There's a safety paddling pool that will get even the laziest of children swimming (if they're not too confident in the water, bring their own armbands or an inflatable vest). In the shallow pool, the water is only up to the ankles — children can play there. Active teenagers, on the other hand, can't miss the X-Tube (105m) and Black Hole (112m).
Part of the entertainment and recreation area is outdoors. Although it is called Desert, there is a swimming pool with a slide. There is also a volleyball court.
On a warm, sunny day, a visit to the Garden of Seasons is recommended. The large outdoor pool is surrounded by sun loungers where you can relax after a swim. For children who are wary of water activities, there is a large play area on dry land. Animators help children have fun. They have creative lessons, sports games and mini-productions in their arsenal.
Adults can relax in the jacuzzis, visit one of the 24 saunas, indulge in spa treatments or even read a book in the thermal library. For the more active, there is a fitness area. Next to the Therme Wien is the vast Oberlaa Park, a beautiful example of landscape gardening.
