Berlin is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe with a huge number of attractions. If you're travelling with children, it can be difficult to get around as little ones get tired, bored and even naughty. A compromise that suits everyone is to take the City Circle Tour buses.
They take you around the capital and give you an overview of the city and its main attractions. Children will love it too, as a ride on a double-decker bus is entertainment in itself.
A standard city tour includes Kurfürstendamm, Potsdamerplatz, Jewish Museum, KaDeWe, Lützowplatz, Alexanderplatz, Berlin Cathedral, Gendarmenmarkt, Checkpoint Charlie, Brandenburg Gate and Reichstag, Kulturforum, Unter den Linden, Charlottenburg. The bus makes a short stop near each of these sights.
You can plan your sightseeing tour around the city. If you want a general sightseeing tour, it's best to keep up with the bus. You will be given headphones with an audio guide. The total length of the tour is two hours. If this is your first time in the city or you are visiting for a short time, it is best to start with the City Circle Tour with this introductory tour.
Berlin TV Tower (Berliner Fernsehturm) is just 400 meters away.
Another option is to stop at the places you are most interested in. All you have to do is get off the bus, see the sights and then hop on any of the other City Circle Tour buses. They all run on the same route every 10-15 minutes so you won't get lost and can spend as much time as you like at your favourite 'stop'.
To help you find your way around and plan where to stay, printed itineraries are available from the City Circle Tour website.
A single City Circle Tour bus ticket is valid for 24 or 48 hours, depending on the fare you choose. During this time, you can hop on at any of the many bus stops to continue your exploration of Berlin. This is especially convenient for travellers with children: if a child is unexpectedly naughty or simply tired, you can stop the tour and continue the next day.
For travellers, the City Circle Tour offers several tour options and two types of bus — yellow and purple. The yellow buses follow the basic route, while the purple buses follow an alternative route that includes the trendy areas of the city and the former Berlin Wall. If you wish, you can buy a single ticket for both types of bus. There are also tours that include visits to the Berlin Television Tower, Madame Tussauds, the Berlin Zoo and a boat trip on the River Spree.
