Do you want to spend time with your little tomboy in an interesting, unusual and fun way? Then head to the Wild West of the Great Depression! Saloons with singing beauties, cowboys on bareback horses, Indians, sheriffs, gunfights and gold rushes — all this will get the blood pumping and the pulse racing.
Are you confused and surprised? No, we are not suggesting that you and your child find a time machine and travel back 100 years. No, we are recommending the famous German theme park, El Dorado Templin, located about 80 km from Berlin. This fascinating and very unusual excursion will take you back to a time of the good old West — wild and untamed, a theme that has been inspired many times by internationally renowned filmmakers.
The Eldorado in Templin is a large area and a true village of its time, where you can meet a Red Chief leaving his lodge to hunt or make war on the palefaces, go horse riding, eat in a real saloon and even make a home movie with a hand-held camera in the best tradition of the Wild West. And the park staff, dressed as real Indians and palefaces, are happy to take part in the filming. The German Eldorado also has a costume hire service, so you can dress up as a redskin, sheriff, cowboy or beautiful saloon singer.
The Dino Park and Zoo “Germendorf” theme park is 55 km away. Visit it with children as well.
There's plenty to do for the kids. There is archery, quad biking, horse riding (including pony rides for the little ones) and a gold mining. Throughout the day there is an entertainment programme where the audience is told about the history of the tribes, their traditions and rituals, and performers sing songs, folk dances and short skits about Indian life.
When you take your child through El Dorado Park, be prepared for a lot of questions. It is better to learn beforehand, as your young traveller is sure to ask you about the confrontation between Indians and cowboys, the construction of a tepee — a portable Redskin dwelling — and the stagecoaches that visitors to Eldorado use to travel around the park for a modest fee.
If one day is not enough to see all the activities and attractions, you can stay in one of the themed hotels or ranches.
