When travelling with a child, you always want to choose an interesting and relaxing sightseeing route to explore the city. Frankfurt has a special tour designed for families with children. The tour takes place in the historic city centre, is accessible by a colourful tram, lasts an hour and is full of surprises.
The Ebbelwei-Express tram has been running in Frankfurt since 1977. It takes its name from the apple wine so popular in the German state of Hesse. To help visitors understand the Hessian love of cider, passengers are treated to apple wine or apple juice. A packet of salted pretzels is served with the drink.
The colourful tram departs from Frankfurt Zoo. If you spend the morning getting to know the animals, there are other sights to see in the afternoon, when the first tram departs. The route passes through the town hall square, across the Main bridge and along the museum promenade in the Sachsenhausen district. There are about two dozen stops along the way. With your ticket, you can get off at any of them to take a closer look at the sights before boarding the next tram.
As well as admiring the beauty of Frankfurt and sipping cider, you will learn a few words in the Hessian dialect and listen to folk music. Old trams have been specially preserved for this special tour. The trams have comfortable, upholstered seats and children can look into the driver's cab.
