In the heart of the German city of Frankfurt am Main there is a small but very curious institution for children called the Junges Museum Frankfurt or simply the Children's Museum. Once here, you will find yourself in a place with very interesting exhibits.
The recent theme, Environment, Climate & YOU, is an interactive exhibition that uses experiments and informative graphics to explore the important issues of climate, biodiversity, sustainability and the green city. These four areas explain the links between ecosystems and climate change and show the impact of human activity on the environment. The exhibition illustrates how human actions affect the entire planet and how pressing problems can be solved. It also encourages young people to educate themselves and form their own opinions.
The museum also organises historical tours of the city for children, with different itineraries for different ages.
The different collections of the Children's Museum are each interesting in their own way. In the Children's Museum, which is part of the Local History Museum, all children will find something close to their hearts.
There's no need to worry about your active and agile child breaking anything while exploring, because the exhibits are specially designed for the curious and mischievous hands of children. Here, children can explore the world around them with their hands.
The Frankfurt Children's Museum is a pleasant exception to the vast number of museums around the world. The organisers believe that this is the only way to get children interested in their surroundings, which are not always friendly.
Another interesting museum to visit with the whole family is the Deutsches Filmmuseum
So what can your child expect at the Kindermuseum Frankfurt am Main? An authentic theatre performance with puppets as the protagonists. Children can make their own puppets and perform plays based on them. Observe celestial bodies through a real telescope. Working as a shop assistant in a grocery store.
Work with gems and metals in a jewellery shop. Make bracelets, necklaces, pearls and other jewellery from feathers, stones and beads. Finally, printing books using typefaces created here in the museum.
Each weekend from 2-5 pm, a workshop or historical play room is open for families with children. Workshops at the Children's Museum are available for visitors aged 6 and over. For their younger siblings, the Children's Museum has a playground with slides, ladders, swings and roundabouts. If you arrive with a baby in a pushchair, please leave it in the museum lobby, as it is not permitted to walk around the site with a baby in your own vehicle.
