The north-eastern part of the city of Frankfurt am Main has very dense modern buildings, a very well-developed infrastructure and very little green space. If it weren't for the beautifully landscaped 7.4 hectare Günthersburgpark, the residents of this area would have nowhere to take their children for walks and sports.
Günthersburg Park is a combination of wide green lawns, lush meadows and mature trees with mighty crowns, such as chestnut, oak, sycamore, lime, birch and many other species. The park also has exotic flora: red and mammoth trees, black pines, etc. There are also original sculptures in the Günthersburg Park, such as the Sower and the Walking Bull, which were created by famous European sculptors, thanks to the help of patrons.
The grounds have been in the Rothschild family for almost 200 years. When Karl Mayer Rothschild bought it in 1837 it was nothing special, but in 1892 the refurbished park, with its new English landscaping and large playground, opened its doors to its first visitors. Over the years, the park has been considerably enlarged and several new playgrounds have been added to the old ones.
Panoramabad Bornheim Water Park is just 1.2 km away
During the summer, Günthersburg Park has the most unusual and interesting water attraction of all — a children's playground with an integrated sprinkler system. All visitors to the park, without exception, enjoy playing in the water and splashing about, especially when it's a hot, sunny afternoon. At the edge of the big water slide there are five female sculptures. These sculptures are used to shoot high pressure jets of water into the centre of the pool, with counter jets of water coming from special nozzles in the centre of the pool.
This clever system creates a light curtain of water in the pool, which is pleasantly cool in the heat. There is no danger of swallowing, even for small children. Parents don't have to be on their children's heels, they can watch them safely from the benches around the attraction.
The water playground runs continuously from May to September and is automatically activated when the temperature rises above 22 degrees Celsius.
In addition to the original water playground in Günthersburg Park, there are 3 other playgrounds for children. The toddler area is located in the eastern part of the park. There are lots of different rides, swings, slides and ladders for the little ones.
The area for children aged 6 to 16 is located in the northern part of Günthersburg Park. Here the older children learn about adult life and how to avoid dangerous situations in real life, such as entering a construction site or camping with campfires and sleeping in tents. It is important to note that the park regularly organises competitions, quizzes and other interesting games for children of all ages.
The playgrounds are hidden by a hedge of bushes, so the screaming and shouting is barely audible to the rest of Günthersburg Park's visitors. Take a leisurely stroll along the footpaths, go jogging or Nordic walking, or just relax as a family in the specially designed picnic areas.
