The Archaeological Museum Hamburg is a unique opportunity for parents to introduce their children to archaeology. If your child is interested in the Earth's past, take him or her on a tour of this cultural institution. The tour promises to be very interesting!
Since May 2009, the archaeology exhibition has been a permanent feature. The museum houses one of the largest collections on prehistory and early history of Northern Germany. Once inside, you and your child will live in the Stone Age for a while. You will be taken on a fascinating journey back in time and your child will learn about the origins of mankind and the stages of development through the centuries.
MidSommerland Water Park is just 1.8 km away. Spend a day at the water park with the whole family there too.
It's important to note that the concept of the archaeological exhibition differs from similar exhibitions in other museums. There is no strict chronological order in the development of the Earth and everything that has lived on it. The permanent exhibition of the Hamburg Archaeological Museum is divided into six major themes: Food, Death, Violence, Material, Innovation and Mobility. Through unique archaeological finds and other curious exhibits, your child will be able to see the subtle but very strong link between the past and the present.
A very interesting part of the main exhibition is a virtual journey into the glaciers, which have literally reached the first floor in a special area of the museum. You can learn about this unique natural phenomenon as you walk past huge white blocks and glass cases with smaller samples. And in specially created artificial caves with cave paintings, your young archaeologist will not only learn how our ancestors lived, but also create their own images.
In addition to the permanent exhibition, the Hamburg Archaeological Museum has regular temporary exhibitions, such as paintings by local artists, and interesting lectures.
Although the Stone Age is the central theme of Helms, there are also interesting exhibitions about Hamburg, its history and the whole of the southern district.
