Wildpark Schwarze Berge

Wildpark Schwarze Berge

Germany, Hamburg

Nature is the first thing you admire in a new country. And there are so many beautiful places in the world...

There are some in Germany too! For example, the incredibly beautiful Schwarze Berge wildlife park, which covers 50 hectares on the outskirts of Hamburg. The best place to see the surrounding area is from the 31 metre high observation tower. Breathtaking panoramic views from the tower are a fitting reward for braving the 150 steps to the top.

Walking through the park is a delight. The woods and fields are home to an abundance of native animals, of which the Wild Park Schwarze Berge is particularly rich. Most species live outside their enclosures.

What can you and your child expect at the Wild Park? The most notable are the pygmy goats, of which there are many. These interesting animals originate from West Africa and have been bred in Europe and North America in recent years. In the park, they graze mainly on the large green lawn, nibbling peacefully on the grass. The park also has a large green lawn where reindeer and their young calves roam. You can feed them with your children — they love apples, chestnuts and carrots.

Without exception, all the young visitors to the Wildpark Schwarze Berge are fascinated by the local pigs. They are good-natured pigs with funny black bristles. Laugh all you like, but the animals are prickly, so be careful of children's small hands. The large Berkshire pigs are friendly, but may inadvertently cause a child discomfort. A special feature of the park are the raccoons. These furry, fat animals are at home here. They live in families near the pond and it's a real treat to watch them go about their daily lives.

The funny Scottish cow has a big snout and red fringes. The cow is so amusing that you will always see lots of children near the corral, even though the cow has a rather peculiar smell. It is also allowed to feed the Scottish cow.

The park also has a playground for younger visitors. It is surrounded by trees that form a hedge. This means that the area is always slightly shaded, which is nice on hot summer days. Sandboxes, roundabouts, various swings, ladders, trampolines and slides await your child in the playground of Wild Park Schwarze Berge. Of particular interest are the mini climbing wall, the cable car and the rides (Luna-Loo6, Nautic Jet, etc.).

For adults, there are picnic areas and barbecues for a cultural and tasty break in nature.
