Even ordinary playgrounds are no longer limited to sandboxes, slides and swings. There are net climbing frames, suspended bridges, mini climbing walls... But when your child has conquered these obstacles in one go, it's time for a visit to the Rope Park. If you're in Hamburg with your child, don't miss Kletterwald Hamburg.
This rope park is located in the middle of a wooded area within the city limits. There are several trails through the trees. Niagara, Amazon, Borneo, K2 Extreme, Nanga Parbat and Everest are all sonorous names. The names seem to suggest that those who can overcome the obstacles on the trail can conquer rivers and mountains.
The simplest rope park routes are Niagara and Amazon. They can be completed by children who are at least 110 cm tall. Participants must pass through 10 stations 2 metres above the ground. It is not as easy as it looks. A safety net prevents you from falling and a helmet protects you from accidental impacts. But it's all about stepping onto a rickety bridge, moving from one swinging platform to another, squeezing through a mesh tunnel.
Planetarium Hamburg is 13 km from the park. We recommend that you plan a family trip there.
If all goes well, a bungee rope takes the exultant adventurer to the final station. The other courses are suitable for those over 130 cm tall, while the Everest course and the 10-metre high Hillary Step are only for those who are at least 160 cm tall. Parents can also have a go.
An instructor awaits the intrepid climber at each station. The instructor will unhook the safety rope and give advice on how best to negotiate the next stage. Of course, flexibility, dexterity and precision of movement are needed to overcome all the obstacles, but the ability to cope with fear is even more useful. When the road beneath your feet narrows to the thickness of a rope stretched several metres above the ground, you can only rely on your strength and safety insurance.
The second point is taken care of by the park: the safety systems are certified and guarantee the safety of the trail. The same goes for all the equipment used on the trails.
In any case, you should wear sturdy indoor shoes with a hard sole — flip-flops and sandals are not suitable. It is advisable to book tickets for Kletterwald Hamburg in advance. If you decide to visit the park at short notice, you may have to wait until insurance is available.
