The main building in the New Castle features an extensive permanent exhibition showcasing the history of the Bavarian Army. Visitors can explore an extraordinary collection of weapons, equipment, uniforms, flags, standards, paintings, and medals. The exhibition focuses on the period from the 14th to the early 20th century, covering the history of war, mercenaries, soldiers and military.

Some of the notable pieces on display include:

  • The Pappenheimer Harnisch (Plate armor) from the 17th century
  • Uniforms of Bavarian kings
  • Exotic loot from the Bavarian involvement in the Turkish Wars under Elector Max Emanuel
  • Personal items from soldiers, such as artworks or wartime records

The permanent exhibition in the New Castle is undergoing reconstruction after the successful 2015 National Exhibition "Napoleon and Bavaria." The renewed exhibition, set to open in 2018, will feature a modern concept with objects that have rarely or never been displayed before, placed in a clearer historical context.
