Until the 1990s, these carriages were used by the West German government to transport VIPs, including German Chancellors, the Beatles during their tours, and even Queen Elizabeth II on her state visit to Germany. Two particularly noteworthy carriages in the collection are the saloon coach 10 241, which formed part of Konrad Adenauer's special train to take the then German Chancellor to Moscow, and the unique carriage built for Chancellor Helmut Schmidt in 1974. The latter is still used by the DB Museum in its historic TEE (Trans Europ Express) train for special occasions.
The museum also houses two of the 19 Trans Europ Express railcars ever manufactured: the VT 11.5 (later designated as 601) and the 602, which was rebuilt with a gas turbine. These railcars serve as a testament to the ingenuity and innovation in railway technology over the years.
