No matter how good the excursion programme is, children always like carefree entertainment. They especially love all kinds of attractions. If you're holidaying with children in Munich, take them to the Fairytale Forest (as the name Märchenwald Park translates), where swings, roundabouts and slides are hidden under the canopy of trees, and surprises and adventures await the youngest visitors.
You don't have to go far to find an example: next to the entrance of the park is the attraction "Dare Riders". The galloping horses will certainly buckle up and agree to take the children for a ride. You'll need your horsemanship skills later on — there are real Indians lurking in the woods, and only a trusty horse can get you out of harm's way. But not everything is dangerous: you can enjoy a ride on the back of a rabbit, porcupine or squirrel.
If you prefer modern transport, you can take a ride on the Fun Train. Dreamers will love the Balloon Carousel or the Vintage Carousel. For the more daring, there is even a comet ride or a trip around the world in a spaceship. A giant umbrella is risen over the park: it's the tallest slide in the Enchanted Forest. The good thing about the ticket is that you can go on all the rides as many times as you like at no extra cost.
And how many fairy tales come to life here! The glass houses tell the stories of Snow White, Little Red Riding Hood and Cinderella, Doctor Powderpill is wearing a giant flyswatter cap, and a special train takes you to Ali Baba's cave. And in the Labyrinth House, a new fairy tale comes to life. In the park you can meet the heroes of German fairy tales, such as the restless Max and Moritz and the brave Hansel and Gretel.
The masters of the forest — the gnomes — have made everything for the visitors' comfort: they have upholstered benches with soft leaves, put up tree stumps for resting on and settled down nearby to keep order. Even the trees in the Fairytale Forest are unusual — one tells magical stories and the other helps children get rid of the dummy — you can just leave it on the tree as a present. Most of the rides are designed for pre-school and primary school children, but older children will love the Magic Village.
There's also an ordinary playground in the shape of a fairytale town, with all sorts of climbing, hiding in towers and even dragon rides. If it's a bit rainy, there's a playground under a tent and a farm where the animals aren't real, but they look just like the real thing. After a day of activity, you can enjoy a bite to eat at the outdoor buffet.
