The younger the children, the more they like to play. That means that excursions for them should playfully take place. For example, kids will love travelling all over Catalonia by train... in one hour. And let the train be tiny, like the cities it visits, all the more enjoyable. Such an incredible journey can be made at the Museum of Magic Trains (Màgic món del tren), located an hour from Barcelona.
The museum has three floors. Mini-Catalonia, entangled in a network of railway tracks, is on the second floor. It covers an area of 250 sq. m, and on this territory fits 660 buildings and 8000 little men. Visitors sometimes recognize themselves among the figures of tourists crowding in front of the Sagrada Familia or relaxing on the beaches of the Costa Brava.
On the layout, you can also see those places where tourists are not taken: the steep slopes of the Pyrenees, green pastures, small villages, a metallurgical plant and much more. Among the fantastic characters that deserve the attention of the creators of the layout are graffiti artists, nudists and even Gauls, for whom they arranged a corner of antiquity.
Considering the details, one cannot forget about the trains. These are not just passenger and freight trains: here, you can see a cog railway and an overhead tram that flies over the city. Locomotives briskly run along the rails, dragging a string of wagons behind them.
On the third floor, there is another mock-up of the railway. It is planned to supplement and develop it so new journeys await visitors.
The ground floor of the Museum of Trains in Catalonia will be of interest primarily to collectors. Reduced copies of objects related to the railway are exhibited here. In the windows, you can see 750 locomotives, 3500 passenger and freight cars, dioramas with miniature trains and many items used by railway workers. Most of the train models are produced by the Bavarian company Märklin, but there are also unique Spanish models.
