Holidays with children in Spain usually fall in the summer because parents tend to improve their children's health on the coast. But sometimes, the heat seems so tiring that dreams of a cooler resting place appear. If you find yourself in one of the resorts of Costa Blanca, try to change the steppe landscape for a walk among the mountains and waterfalls. Such beauty awaits you in the Algar Waterfalls Park, which is located next to the town of Callosa d'en Sarrià. The Algar Waterfalls are open all year long.
The park is secluded enough to take a break from the bustle of the city and well-equipped enough (tourist office, parking areas, toilets, first aid, the Arboretum, the picnic area and the 2nd category camping) to come here with a child. No one will have to climb the rocks from which streams of water fall: footpaths with railings and bridges are laid throughout the territory. So you don’t need to look under your feet, but you will need to walk up the stairs. Wear comfortable shoes, take a hat and water to drink.
The Algara Falls in Spain are not considered the most famous, but that doesn't stop visitors from admiring the beauty of nature. Streams flow amongst the green thickets, where pine trees grow alongside dates and bananas. They give rise to the Algar River. The water flows calmly, and somewhere it rushes down a steep escarpment. The biggest waterfall in the park is 40 metres high. The water in the springs is so clear that one can swim in it. However, it never gets warmer than +17°C.
To ensure you don't miss any of the attractions, we recommend you use a map you will receive when buying your ticket. It shows the waterfalls, museums, restaurants and picnic grounds.
The length of the paths in the park is about 1.5 km. When asked how long the tour lasts, the Algar Falls website gives a very witty answer: “The tour takes about 45 minutes, but you need to add time for swimming, photographing, etc.”
However, if time is left, you can drive a little further than the waterfalls and get into the Algar Cacti Botanical Garden, where the DinoPark dinosaur park is currently located.
