The sign above Malaga's old tobacco factory building reads: "Museo Automovilistico de Malaga". But saying it is just a car museum is not a sure thing. It's part modern art exhibition, a haute couture exhibition and even a small botanical garden. The vehicle showroom, however, is dominated by a huge collection of vintage cars and cars of the future. It's hard to think of a better place for a family excursion in the Costa del Sol.
The car exhibition has ten sections, each of which speaks for itself. Belle Epoque, Golden 20s, Art Deco, Popular Cars, Designer and Dream Cars, English Tradition, Alternative Energy, Dolce Vita (sports cars) and Tuning.
Awkward, graceful, nostalgic, spaceship-like, common and rare, cheap and expensive cars stand in spacious halls. One can walk around each of them, look at all sides and sometimes even look inside. And it's unclear whose delight will be more significant: fathers and sons, of course, understand the technical characteristics, but mothers and daughters ideally notice the beauty of cars.
In some cars you will see wax figures. It is the emphasis on the fact that in some of the vehicles, the passengers were not given the best seats. You can also see how the first car racers were dressed and what tourists in the early twentieth century took with them on their holidays in the Costa del Sol.
The Automobile Museum in Málaga is also full of contemporary artwork, using car parts to create it. The works are original, and the artists' ideas are understandable even to children.
The Eco-Museum section offers a very unusual way of looking at the place that transport should occupy in our lives. Here, cars are allowed to rust, and wildlife is allowed to thrive. In this way, the issue of environmental protection is addressed. The interior of the Málaga Retro Car Museum is also ideally suited to the haute couture collections, which are renewed now and then.
