What do you do when you suddenly feel like sledging in the middle of summer? If that desire catches you during a family holiday in Costa Daurada (Spain), try your hand at... bobsleighing. The Calafell Slide, located in the town of Calafell, is a 700 m-long bobsleigh run designed for amateur sliders. The chute zigzags down the mountain, and you roll down it on a lightweight sledge, adjusting the speed.
Children aged 3 to 7 may only go down with an adult. Children aged 8 to 10 can go down the trail alone or in tandem. From the age of 11, only solo descents are allowed. The first time you and your child should do it together: the initial quiet and straight track bends up and down, right and left, and the sledge rattles like an electric locomotive. It's worth slowing down if you get scared and descend at a low speed.
The gutter profile will prevent you from flying off the track during the descent, but you must keep a safe distance of at least 25 metres between the sledges. The Calafell Slide summer track is open even in winter, although it is mainly open at weekends. During the warmer months, people come here for a picnic. You can bring your food, but you'll have to buy drinks from the ride's bar. There are tables and barbecue facilities in the picnic area.
