From Madrid to the coast of Africa — at least 700 km. Safari Madrid is just 60 km away. Its territory is reminiscent of the African savannah, where giraffes, antelopes, lions, elephants, ostriches and other representatives of the fauna of the hot continent live in the wild. Going out into nature after city excursions in Madrid will be a good rest for children. They will have the opportunity to see almost natural wildlife.
You must come to the safari park by car — you will travel through the savannah on it (the car should not be open-topped). Animals are accustomed to transport, so they are unlikely to be distracted from their affairs. You may be lucky enough to see how elephants and hippos bathe, how ostriches run, how a giraffe walks with a mother, and how monkeys ride on a rhinoceros. And the lions' location, perhaps, you will determine by a formidable growl — it can be heard for 8 km.
But you won't have to hide from some animals in Madrid's safari park. Feel free to enter the farm and try to buy food in advance: goats, ponies and pigs will show increased interest in you. Some of the predators are in the mini-zoo. These are mainly large representatives of the cat family: Bengal tigers, cougars, jaguars, and lynxes. Also, here you can see primates and some other animals.
Reptiles have their own gloomy and warm corner. The Safari Park in Madrid hosts, among other reptiles, the longest snake in the world, the reticulated python. The length of this snake can reach 7 m. The python living in the park is the longest in Europe.
Many birds also live in the park — from inconspicuous ducks to bright parrots, from pheasants to Andean condors. At the exhibition of birds of prey, you can see how owls, eagles, hawks, and falcons fly and hunt. Who can fly the fastest? From what height can a predator see prey? Who has the largest wingspan? How are birds trained for falconry? Answers to these and other questions can be obtained at the exhibition.
Watching elephants bathe or youngsters frolic, your children might want a similar experience. And they will — Safari Madrid has a swimming pool open in the summertime, an incredible high slide and a go-kart track.
The park also has a fast food restaurant, ice cream and refreshment stands. There are also two large picnic areas. If you are planning a short holiday with a child in Madrid, you can also visit Faunia Park in the capital instead of Safari Park.
