Who created the design of the deep sea? Who has not spared the colours for those creatures that cannot be admired? If the child still needs to ask you these questions, he may ask them after visiting the Palma de Mallorca Aquarium (Palma Aquarium). It is one of the largest aquariums in Europe.
To accommodate the 8,000 sea creatures, 55 huge tanks filled with 5 million litres of seawater have been created. Even if you have already visited such exhibitions in other regions of Spain, the Mallorca Aquarium will still give you new knowledge and positive emotions.
The Palma Aquarium is divided into nine themed areas. The total length is only 900 metres, but it is advisable to allow at least two to three hours for an exhibit tour. Time is needed not to rush your child while playing with the starfish or watching the sharks.
Most of the tour will take place in semi-darkness. The Mediterranean, Tropical Seas, and Blue Abyss aquariums are so big that you might forget where you are. Giant octopuses, groupers and sharks are just around the corner. You can stop with the kids at the aquariums with small fish scurrying around the coral. In the contact pool, everyone is allowed to touch stingrays and starfish.
Coral reefs are the pride of the Palma de Mallorca Aquarium. Corals survive well in captivity and build new, bizarre colonies. A very unusual tank has been allocated to the jellyfish. A massive cylinder with translucent umbrellas hanging in it looks like a wax lamp. You can forget about time, watching the coloured jellyfish slowly rise to the ceiling and fall back down again.
The Palma Aquarium offers guided tours, including tours in English. The guide knows lots of interesting facts about fish, molluscs and corals. Does he know if a fruit salad will come from a meeting between a knife fish and a pineapple fish? The most incredible adventure you can experience at the oceanarium in Mallorca is shark diving. But this is only for adults. But children over eight can dive in an aquarium with non-hazardous fish.
Part of the exhibition is outdoors. A Mediterranean garden and a piece of the Amazon jungle are juxtaposed here. Look out for the inhabitants of the ponds: koi carp are as beautiful as tropical goldfish.
But it's not just this that makes Palma Aquarium one of the best places to take your children on holiday in Mallorca. In the summertime, the little visitors are entertained by a team of animators led by a water fight or a dip in the fountain. Children have a great time in the playground at any time of year, where pirate schooners, toothy sharks and giant sea turtles set the mood.
