History and Background

Bob Bullington, a former New York City policeman passionate about horticulture, founded Bullington Gardens. After retiring, Bob moved to Hendersonville and established Flora Knoll Farms in 1979. His vision was introducing new and unusual plants to the nursery trade, including native azaleas and Japanese maples. After his passing in 1989, the property became the Bullington Horticultural Learning Center, and today, it operates as a partnership between Henderson County Public Schools and the NC Cooperative Extension.
