Baltimore County Sailing Cente

Baltimore County Sailing Cente

United States, Essex

Overview

Let the winds of adventure fill your sails at the Baltimore County Sailing Center, a haven for all things nautical. This camp, with its focus on kayaking and sailing, is a testament to the vision of George Culberston. In 1992, after dreaming of a community sailing facility at Rocky Point for two years, he brought his idea to life with the help of Glenmar Sailing Association members. The sailing center, originally a program of the Back River Recreation Council, has grown into a thriving entity in its own right. Its rich history is as captivating as the waters it overlooks. The dance hall from the prohibition era, which initially served as the center's base, was replaced by the pavilion that now stands as a beacon for budding sailors. The camp has evolved over the years, adopting new structures while retaining its rustic charm. It's not just about the pavilion; the center features a range of facilities from trailers serving as offices and classrooms, to sheds and pen structures closer to the fence. The most recent addition to the center, a brand new trailer, arrived in 2014 and continues to serve the community. Learning to navigate the waters at the Baltimore County Sailing Center is not just about mastering the skills of sailing and kayaking; it's an invitation to embark on an adventure that is as much about the journey as it is about the destination. So gear up, families! The winds of adventure are calling.
