Overview
Step into a world untamed by technology and embrace the magic of childhood at Camp Howard. Offering a myriad of activities from performing arts to archery, and yes, even a 100ft long slip & slide for young adrenaline enthusiasts, every experience is designed to excite, educate, and inspire young minds.
This camp, created by the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO), serves as an urban escape to nurture youthful spirits, build confidence, and generate unforgettable moments. The CYO uses sports as a tool to teach teamwork, discipline, and Christian values, offering programs that bring thousands of children together in a shared journey of outdoor exploration and personal growth.
Basketball, football, volleyball, cheerleading, and swimming are some of the robust sports offerings at Camp Howard, attracting nearly 10,000 kids across the greater Portland region each year, from Salem and Stayton in the south to Clark County, Washington in the north. And, for those captivated by the majesty of Mother Nature, there's a variety of hiking excursions to sate their curiosity.
But it's not just about physical activities. Kids get their creative juices flowing with arts and crafts sessions, while environmental exploration activities keep them engaged and feed their thirst for knowledge about the natural world.
Camp Howard, a hub of joviality and camaraderie, focuses on creating an honest-to-goodness positive experience that encapsulates the best bits of childhood summers. It’s a place where memories are made, friendships are formed, and personal growth is realized, one adventure at a time. A balanced mix of sportive feats and creative expression, it gives kids a taste of both worlds, making it a coveted treasure amongst camps.
