Get ready for a star-studded adventure with a dash of rustic charm at Girl Scout Camp Kilohana. This enchanting retreat is a hidden gem, nestled high up on Saddle Road, between Waimea and Hilo. Sitting pretty at an elevation of 6000 feet, the camp covers a sprawling 6.83 acres, providing ample room to roam, explore, and, most importantly, scout! One could say, the camp is as rustic as they come, with the only water source being a catchment tank adjacent to the main lodge. But hey, who said scouting was ever about luxury? It's all about embracing nature and the elements, and Camp Kilohana offers just that. The camp's location is perfect for stargazing, nature study, and even retreats, thanks to the serene and tranquil setting. And don't worry about the lack of electricity, as you're encouraged to bring your own generator along.
A stone's throw away from the camp is the Nene Goose Sanctuary, perfect for a day trip filled with birdwatching and nature walks. Plus, the nearby Onizuka Center of Astronomy on Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa Observatory are places you wouldn't want to miss, especially if your little ones have a penchant for the stars and the skies. Despite its rustic nature, Camp Kilohana doesn't skimp out on comfort. With space to accommodate 80 people comfortably, it's perfect for those larger gatherings and meetings. Remember, some rental car companies might not be too thrilled about their vehicles treading the road into camp, so it's best to check beforehand. All in all, Camp Kilohana is a wonderful blend of adventure, fun, and learning, making it an ideal choice for Girl Scouts.
