The Teen Writers Workshop, hosted by North Carolina State University’s English Department, is a two-week summer afternoon program designed to nurture the creative spirit of aspiring writers aged 14-19. Held on the NC State campus, this non-residential workshop provides an inspiring environment for teens to develop their skills in fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, and dramatic writing. Whether participants are seasoned writers or simply eager to explore their creativity, this program offers a supportive space to learn and grow. Program Highlights The Teen Writers Workshop focuses on helping students refine their craft through a mix of lectures, small-group workshops, and one-on-one guidance. Key features include: Diverse Genres: Explore fiction, poetry, plays, and creative nonfiction with an emphasis on storytelling techniques like character development, dialogue, and plot structure. Craft Lectures: Learn from experienced instructors and guest speakers who share insights into the writing process. Small Group Workshops: Collaborate with peers in intimate settings (9-12 students per group) for personalized feedback. Creative Exploration: Read your own work aloud, experiment with new styles, and engage in discussions about writing across genres. Final Celebration: Showcase your work in a printed anthology and share it during a celebratory event at the end of the program.
