The Cultiva! Youth Project

The Cultiva! Youth Project

United States, Boulder

Overview

Imagine a summer camp that's more than just roasting marshmallows and singing songs around a campfire. Welcome to the world of the Cultiva! Youth Project, where kids aged 14-18 roll up their sleeves, dig into the rich earth, and learn what it takes to operate an organic urban farm. This pioneering program, set against the backdrop of Boulder's breathtaking scenery, is where kids cultivate not just veggies but also vital life skills. Their day-to-day activities? Sowing seeds, nurturing plants, and harvesting produce that not only feed 70 local community members but also provide food for those in need in Longmont. But it doesn't stop at greens and beans. The young farmers also get an up-close and personal experience with friendly goats, learning the ropes of raising livestock humanely and efficiently. It's not all work and no play, though. Alongside their farm duties, these young cultivators also dip their toes into project administration, public relations, and community education. Their contribution to the community doesn't end with the farm's gate - they also get involved in local volunteer projects, connecting with their community on a profound level. The Cultiva! Youth Project doesn't just teach kids about agriculture - it also sows seeds of leadership, entrepreneurial spirit, environmental stewardship, and community service. It's a camp where kids can grow more than just plants - they grow as individuals, too. After all, it's not just about getting their hands dirty, it's about planting the seeds for a brighter, greener future.
