Fairmont Hotel Vier Jaherszeiten

Fairmont Hotel Vier Jaherszeiten

Neuer Jungfernstieg 9-14, Hamburg, Germany

Overview

The five-star Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten, part of the Fairmont Hotels & Resorts group, is located in the heart of the city on the banks of the famous Alster lake. The building's century and a half of history is reflected in its rooms and interiors.

Despite its history, the hotel itself doesn't feel like a 'dinosaur from the past' — the rooms are equipped with the latest technology, and antiques and paintings blend naturally with TV panels, coffee machines and modern bathrooms. The lake view rooms are particularly impressive.

Even the smallest rooms are large enough to accommodate an extra bed or cot. But if you need more space, you can book adjoining rooms, effectively creating a 2-3 bedroom apartment for your stay. Younger guests are provided on arrival with stuffed animals in their uniforms, colouring books, a selection of CDs with films and games, children's bed linen and cosmetics and, for the very young, cribs and playpens.

The Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten ensures that even the most demanding guests will not go hungry. Breakfast at the Condi is a little more ascetic than at other hotels, with egg dishes, fish, cold cuts and an a la carte continental menu. Afternoon tea in the lounge is an afternoon snack with salmon, sandwiches, eggs and pastries.

And for lunch, there are several starred restaurants to choose from, from Michelin-starred Haerlin to international and regional competition winner Doc Cheng's. Special children's menus are available for younger guests.

The hotel's location is ideal for a relaxing stay in Hamburg. Start your city break by feeding the swans on the Alster and strolling through the surrounding park. Then take a tour of the historic city centre and visit the town hall, the opera house and the banks of the River Elbe.

If the weather doesn't cooperate with a walk, don't miss the Hamburg Planetarium, the Doll Museum, the Hamburg History Museum and the Klick Kindermuseum. And if a trip to Hamburg coincides with Christmas, you can relive childhood memories with the kids on board the fairytale ships moored on the Alster.

Food and Drink

There are several restaurants and bars on site, the oldest of which Haerlin and Jahreszeiten Grill  have been open since 1925. The coffee house Condi is known mainly for its varied breakfasts and traditional afternoon tea with apple strudel or fresh puffs.

The breakfasts are a combination of buffet and à la carte: cold snacks can be chosen from the buffet bar, while hot items, such as omelettes, are served in front of customers. Warmly decorated from morning to evening, Condi Lounge spoils its customers with pastries with fresh fruit, cakes, aromatic coffee and fragrant teas.  After 5pm you can relax here with a glass of wine and spicy snacks.

The Haerlin Restaurant is the most prestigious of the hotel's restaurants, with two Michelin stars and 18 points from Galt Millau. The local chef's motto  "More taste than seen by the eye" is successfully translated into true gastronomic masterpieces. The view of the inland Alster Lake complements the refined interior of the interior dining room and the unique taste of the food.

The Jahreszeiten Grill has been restored to its original form from the mid-1920s. Authentic farm-fresh vegetables, poultry, selected fish and meats, combined with wines from the in-house cellar, create a unique Art Deco dining experience. A special children's menu is available. Inside the hotel, the two-storey Jahreszeiten bar, an extension of the restaurant of the same name, is the perfect place to spend the evening. The barman here is equally adept at mixing classic and trendy cocktails from around the world.

During the warmer months, you can enjoy meals from local establishments on the outdoor terrace at Jahreszeiten. Starters and hot dishes, refreshments and hot drinks, desserts — the menu is as varied as it is refined. Specialities include tuna steak marinated in fennel and beef fillet in soy marinade. When the weather is cool, heat curtains are used for the comfort of the guests.

Haerlin is not the only award-winning restaurant on the site. On the ground floor of the building is the relatively new but already acclaimed Doc Cheng's, which fuses European and Asian cuisine in an exciting way. The 1920s Asian Far East inspired décor creates a unique and intimate atmosphere. The open plan kitchen makes you feel like you are somewhere in China, not central Europe. A special menu has been created for children.

The Doc Cheng's bar next to the restaurant is also reminiscent of 1920s Shanghai. Exotic spicy cocktails with ginger, curry and lemongrass, unusual mixes with Asian liqueurs are popular not only among the guests but also with the residents of Hamburg.

On the ground floor of the hotel, in the lounge area, tables at the Wohnhalle Bar are nestled around the burning fireplace. Light snacks, pastries, coffee and classic British teas are particularly appetizing in the wood-paneled, marble-floored interiors with antique furniture. At midday you can join a traditional English afternoon tea, with fruit tarts, eclairs, hard-boiled eggs, scones, salmon and cucumber sandwiches. The bar's tea menu offers a large selection of loose-leaf teas as well as tea blends. As well as the usual tea-time sweet desserts, there are hot or cold snacks such as sandwiches or salad with warm quail breast.

With such an abundance of establishments at the Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten, you hardly need to look for alternatives. But if you can't wait to compare the skills of local chefs and establishments in town, take a walk to the city's pedestrian zone, which is a short walk from the hotel.

Complimentary accommodation on arrival.
