The Wildlife Park in Aurach is a great opportunity for the whole family to spend time alone with nature, see and interact with amazing animals, and at the same time get a boost of positive energy from a harmonious and picturesque corner of Tyrol.
This private zoo is located 8 km from Kitzbühel in the village of Aurach at an altitude of 1,080 metres. The park is open almost all year round, except for a few months in winter. There are around 200 animals in total. The Aurach Wildlife Park is unique in that it has almost every species of Alpine animal living in their natural environment, including deer, wild boar, lynx, marmots, pheasants and ibex.
The park is also home to exotic animals such as macaques, llamas, kangaroos, yaks and peacocks. Young children will be particularly interested in the separate house with domestic animals (rabbits, donkeys, goats, sheep), which you can even stroke if you like. At 14:30 you can have a look at the feeding of the animals. It's a very interesting and educational experience, especially for children. In a moment, herds of sheep, donkeys, deer and gazelles gather around the feeding troughs and begin to feast.
Some of the animals in the park are still in cages, but thanks to the excellent conditions and care they receive, they don't seem to suffer from the restrictions of freedom at all and seem to be doing very well.
As well as watching the animals, children can play and exercise their skills in the large playground, which was opened in 2011 especially for young visitors. There are several play areas with different rides, and a picture of the park's symbol, Willie the Wild Boar, will accompany the little ones to each of the amusement stations.
The Branderhofstube restaurant and terrace at the entrance to the park is a great place to eat, have a coffee and discuss what you've seen.
Finally, we would like to remind you of some rules of behaviour in the park, which you should read before visiting Aurah.
- The management accepts no responsibility for injury or damage to people, dogs or property. Parents and/or guardians are responsible for children in their care throughout the park (game park, playground, guesthouse, car park and all associated areas).
- Do not touch or pet the wild animals (deer, roe deer, mouflon) in the open enclosures and keep your distance!
- Do not leave the marked paths.
- It is forbidden to feed the animals!
- Deer fawns are born in May and June. The mother leaves them alone for a few hours during the day to protect them from predators. The enemy cannot see or smell them as they do not move. This is perfectly normal, so don't be alarmed if you see them lying alone and not moving. However, never touch the baby deer as their mother will no longer accept them if they smell like a human.
- Eating and picnicking in the game park is strictly forbidden!
- Always treat the animals with respect and never disturb them as they also need peace and quiet. Don't try to get their attention by shouting or banging on the enclosures. This makes them aggressive! Climbing into the enclosures or over the barriers is strictly forbidden. Parents are responsible for ensuring that their children behave appropriately towards the animals.
- Dogs are allowed on a short lead.
- Bicycles, trolleys, tricycles, scooters, skateboards, Segways, etc. are not allowed inside the open fence!
- Do not leave prams or other objects unattended in the park.
- Do not dispose of litter, cigarette butts or bags in the park.
- Parents and/or guardians are responsible for their children.
