If you are holidaying with children in Seefeld during the warmer months, be sure to include a hike along the Leutasch gorge adventure trail in Seefeld. The whole trail is steeped in magic and mystery, with its mysterious inhabitants including goblins, dwarfs and the master of the gorge, the mountain spirit, who has been the talk of the town since time immemorial.
As you enter the forest at the end of the Leutasch Gorge, you may feel a strange, mysterious sensation as you enter the realm of the Gorge Spirits, who wreak havoc in their realm of raging torrents, roaring cascades and bizarre rock formations. Brave walkers can descend from the path into the depths of their watery lair. At the end of the gorge, which is up to 75 metres deep in places, live goblins and water sprites — creatures of nature that can only be seen by leaving the everyday world far behind and plunging into the shadowy world of Spirit Gorge.
By following a special trail and climbing a narrow path, you can catch a glimpse of the Gorge Master's dwelling. There are three trails: the Goblin Trail (about 1 hour), the Mountain Spirit Trail (about 1.5 hours) and the Waterfall Trail. The trail is not just for walking, but also has educational elements.
Stops along the way tell children about the history of the area, while goblins explain the geology and different mountains in the Leuitasch gorge, the role of glaciers in the Ice Age and much more. At the end of the gorge, near the village of Mittenwald, the Waterfall Trail leads deeper into the gorge and ends with a fascinating 23 metre high waterfall that can be admired from a specially equipped platform. From here the trail returns to the car park along a forest track.
There are information boards at the stops telling mysterious stories about the Spirit. The trail is not suitable for walkers with prams or bicycles (it is quite narrow).
