The Austrian Alps aren't just for outdoor enthusiasts. There are plenty of places to relax and unwind. Relax in a thermal pool and unwind in a sauna, for example, at Therme Amadé in the spa town of Altenmarkt. There are 11 saltwater pools and 11 freshwater pools. Water temperatures range from 26°C to 35°C. Only the sauna area has a cold pool (with a water temperature of +14°C).
The water in the children's area is very pleasant, with a temperature of around +32°C. There are colourful toys for children to swim with and a fun slide. If parents prefer to take a sauna, babysitters are available to look after their children during the bathing time.
Above the children's area, just off the other areas, you'll find a family quiet room, giving the youngest visitors the peaceful surroundings they need after an exciting day. In this friendly oasis you'll find comfortable family sun loungers and small cots. Enjoy a wonderful family holiday at Erlebnis-Therme Amadé!
Older children can swim with adults in the large Jacuzzis or ride the artificial waves. For those learning to swim, there are inflatable muffs and boards to hire. Experienced swimmers can train in the pool for an hour or two. You can also take part in aqua aerobics twice a day.
Children over the age of 12 can also take a one-and-a-half hour snorkelling and diving course at the spa, organised by the Dive2 diving school. Fans of extreme water activities will find the Black Hole, a 50-metre drop. The 'Dead Loop' attraction is not a water ride, but it promises a completely new experience. Children over the age of 12 are allowed on the ride.
Therme Amadé is open all year round. Note that some of the pools are outdoor. The covered pavilion has large panoramic windows, so in winter you can admire the snow-capped Alps as you relax in the hot tub.
While the kids are busy with water activities, parents can visit one of the saunas, inhale the healing air in the salt room or enjoy spa treatments, including body wraps with Dead Sea mud.
