History of the Zoo

Hodonín Zoo was created on the initiative of the former City National Committee, chaired by Emil Schwarz. Founded in 1976, the zoo was partly open to the public but officially inaugurated on September 29, 1977. Initially offering only a few species of domestic animals, beasts, and small monkeys, the zoo quickly gained popularity. By 1982, it had expanded enough to gain official zoo status. A decade later, further animal numbers and facility growth led to its promotion to a full-fledged zoological garden.

The zoo has faced challenges, including severe damage from the F4 2021 South Moravia tornado. However, it has consistently bounced back, with ongoing renovations and new exhibits enhancing the visitor experience. Hodonín Zoo is a modern complex with state-of-the-art facilities, including an educational center and new pavilions for various species.
