The family-friendly resorts of the Costa de Almeria aren't yet packed full of activities, but there are still some exciting things to do. If you're holidaying in Roquetas de Mar with a child, the Karting Copo & Roquetas karting track is a great help. It's a chance to try something new, and children can participate from age 5.
As the name suggests, there is also a track in the town of Kopo, but it is a bit far from the coast. However, it is here that there is a separate track for teaching children. Karting in Roquetas de Mar began in 1991. The track is 860 metres long and 8 to 10 metres wide. The straight part is 100 metres, and the rest of the circuit features many S-shaped and hairpin turns.
What's on offer for young riders? The four-horsepower Pony karts are prepared for kids 5-6 years old. Children from 7 to 12 years old can drive 6.6 hp karts. There is also a tandem kart for a couple with a child. Its power is 6.5 hp. Maybe at first, the child can go as a passenger. But in tandem, both seats have a steering wheel and pedals so that a passenger can turn into a pilot at any time. There are single karts and duos with 9- and 13-hp adult capacity.
International Automobile Federation standards ensure driver safety on the track. One method is a remote braking system, by which the dispatcher can slow down the kart if the rider exceeds a safe speed. And, of course, all karting visitors are issued with a helmet.
Karting is quite popular in Almeria. There are regular karting competitions in Roquetas de Mar, so you don't have to be a kart racer yourself, but you can be a spectator and a supporter.
