Madrid Zoo

Spain, Madrid

Madrid's Casa de Campo Park offers more than just a day out with your child, with so many activities. The Madrid Zoo is a good place for fun and educational activities. Hundreds of animals can be seen here, from the familiar bears and monkeys to the rare anteaters or red-breasted pigs found in zoos. The Madrid Zoo also includes a large aquarium with 330 fish species, turtles and marine invertebrates.

The first impression of the Madrid Zoo can be gained from a trip on the sightseeing train. You'll get to see many animals in 20 minutes and can decide which ones you want to see more of. For further outings, the zoo offers to rent a pram if you're travelling with a baby.

At the Madrid Zoo and Aquarium, a free map from the ticket office will help you get around the extensive grounds. You'll tour a miniature replica of the Earth and learn the fauna of the Americas, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia and Oceania.

It's no exaggeration to say that once you cross the threshold of the zoo, the question of what to do in Madrid becomes self-evident. For example, several times a day, the animal kingdom's most talented members participate in shows. Do you want to see the sea lions make the jokes? How high do dolphins jump? How do eagles catch fish? How do toucans handle their enormous beak? Be sure to enquire when a particular show is taking place.

Another exciting offer at the Zoo Aquarium de Madrid is the animal stories. Even basic English or Spanish is enough to explain why elephants need sand, why koalas have to sleep a lot and how gorillas raise their babies. Check the schedule to see when zoo staff will talk about elephants, gorillas, orangutans and chimpanzees, pandas, koalas and brown bears, eagles and rhinos.

Also, at the zoo aquarium of Madrid, you can look into the underwater world. Giant turtles, slow-moving fat grouper and torpedo-like sharks are hovering in the water column. The aquarium is home to lizards, crocodiles and other reptiles. Also, in Madrid Zoo, babies are often born. You might witness a baby elephant or a giraffe walking for the first time.

There are several restaurants and cafes within the zoo. You are also allowed to bring your food.
