Mid-Atlantic Burn Camp Fund

United States, Clarksville

Overview

Let's take a journey into the heart of Clarksville, where the spirit of resilience lights up the landscape. The Mid-Atlantic Burn Camp (MABC) is a haven, a place where young burn survivors find strength, camaraderie, and the joys of childhood. Founded in 1992 by physical therapists Linda C. French and E. Tonas Kalil, it is a testament to their belief in the healing power of community and shared experiences. Inspired by a similar camp in Colorado, Linda and Tonas laid the groundwork for a local haven for burn victims. The camp's inaugural session in 1989 witnessed 19 brave campers, supported by 8 dedicated counselors at Camp Fairlee Manor, Maryland. The next two years saw the camp relocate to Capital Camps near Waynesboro, PA, with the dedicated team providing all the programs. By 1992, the camp had evolved into a structured entity, ready to accommodate more children and offer a wider variety of programs. And so, MABC found its permanent home at Camp Horizon's, Harrisonburg, VA. Every year, the camp opens its doors to young burn survivors, offering them an opportunity to enjoy a myriad of activities, all at no cost. The drive and passion of its founders and supporters have seen MABC grow into a beacon of hope for young burn survivors and their families across the Mid-Atlantic region. It stands as a shining example of the power of community, the spirit of resilience, and the joy of childhood. Join us in acknowledging this power and celebrating the strength of these young survivors as they experience the joy of summer camp in the most extraordinary way.
