A theme park is one of the most important parts of a holiday with a child. If you have already seen all the attractions in Düsseldorf or Cologne, we recommend a trip to the small town of Bottrop, where the old Beck Castle stands on a green lawn, surrounded by a kaleidoscope of attractions for children. You never know which one your child will be the first to see. Maybe they'll catch a glimpse of a white train winding its way through the park. A quick trip through the many attractions and a plan of action.
Rides abound: Russian slides, trampolines, swings and merry-go-rounds, a water slide, a Ferris wheel, an astronaut simulator, maps and electric cars.
The highlight of the amusement park is the high-speed Ladybug rollercoaster. Sit back, put your hands in the air and give a big round of applause. Please note: The Ladybug and Kite coasters require an adult companion and the minimum height for children is 1.05m. The maximum height for this attraction is 2.00m.
Race down the colourful wave slide on your carpet. Who slides faster? Dad? Mum? Or your little sister? You can set speed records on the straight turbo slide. Who do you think will win?
There is also a children's merry-go-round and small swings for the little ones. However, most of the rides are designed for children aged 9 to 10.
The park also has several playgrounds, a puppet theatre with several shows a day and a cinema dedicated to fairy tales. Tucked away in the greenery is a rope park where children can compete with squirrels in climbing from tree to tree.
In bad weather there are pavilions where you can play outdoor games. However, Beck Castle may be closed in bad weather. Like any decent castle, Beck has its own ghosts — you can visit them in the Dungeon of Horrors. The main ghost, Becky, is not scary at all, but very charming. There are shows in the park featuring her.
If you want to trade in all the excitement for some quiet relaxation, the best place to go is to the lake near the castle. You can sit in the shade and admire the lush greenery, or take a boat or catamaran trip around the lake. There is a café in the castle where you can have lunch. It is worth noting that Botrop is also home to the famous Movie Park amusement park.
