SEA LIFE has just about everything a young sea and water lover could dream of. Situated in the beautiful town of Oberhausen, it is a fun and exciting place for adults and children alike. There are around fifty aquariums where around five thousand different species of sea creatures live peacefully side by side. These include stingrays, seahorses, sharks, jellyfish, clownfish and many other underwater creatures. Children will love the glass-bottomed boat ride at the aquarium, which allows them to see the aquatic environment and the depths.
The starfish exhibit, which opened in 2014, is very interesting. It features beautiful starfish of all shapes, colours and sizes. Imagine: for many years these sea creatures were hidden from man, but now they have been brought together in one place to reveal a bright and colourful constellation to the Oceanarium's visitors, young and old. During a visit to the exhibition, you can discover over 300 species of these unique creatures and learn lots of interesting facts about them.
Sea Life Oberhausen differs from all the other aquariums in the network in that underwater life is shown against a backdrop of human intervention, and many of the tanks are decorated with objects related to human activity. For example, in one of the aquariums you can see a sunken ship and the remains of cannons.
Another interesting fact: this aquarium was once home to the famous octopus Paul — the world-famous predictor of the outcome of football matches. Ironically, he was almost never wrong. A whole room is dedicated to him! A few years ago they even built a small monument to the cephalopod and his ashes are buried there.
Be sure to visit the SEA LIFE Oceanarium. As you wander through its huge aquariums, you can learn about the flora and fauna of the different continents of the world, and you can even feed some of them. You can combine a trip to the aquarium with a visit to the Legoland Discovery Centre.
